How do cross-selling and upselling differ from each other?

Asked 2 years ago

As an e-commerce store owner, I'm interested in understanding the difference between cross-selling and upselling. Can you provide a concise explanation and example of how these two sales techniques differ? Thank you!

Cross-selling and upselling are both effective sales techniques that can boost revenue for your e-commerce store.

Cross-selling is about recommending additional products that complement the customer's purchase. For instance, suggesting a phone case or screen protector when a customer buys a new phone.

Conversely, upselling involves recommending higher-end or premium versions of the product the customer is already interested in. For instance, offering customers a higher-end mobile phone when browsing through mid-range models.
