What's the difference between personalization and customization?

Asked 2 years ago

Hey! I often hear the terms 'personalization' and 'customization' being used interchangeably, but I'm not quite sure if this is right. Are personalization and customization two separate concepts, or do they overlap in some way? TY

Personalization vs. Customization: Although both terms are often used interchangeably, personalization and customization are two distinct concepts. While both aim to enhance customer satisfaction, personalization focuses on adapting existing options, and customization offers more flexibility to create unique solutions.

Personalization is defined as the process of tailoring a product or experience to meet a customer's unique needs and preferences. It involves using data and algorithms to deliver targeted content or recommendations.

Conversely, customization involves giving customers the ability to make specific modifications or choices in the design or features of a product to match their preferences. It gives the customer a sense of control and ownership over the experience.
